Naming things

Today is the day I gave in to my very good friend Alex and created a blog. While his request for a promise was vague enough to allow for the loophole of an empty blog, an intrinsic aversion to unfinished business compels me to write this.

I'll burden you with what must be a common sentiment in this day and age, which is that most ideas you'll come up with have already been implemented. Case in point, blog names.

arbitrarymusings is gone. That's fair enough, it sounds rather nice, so I'm not surprised. What was less obvious was that I'd go on to specifically look for unusual English words and still fail to come up with something that was free. To name a couple, psithurism (The sound of rustling leaves or wind in the trees) and mumpsimus (A person who obstinately adheres to old ways in spite of clear evidence that they are wrong; an ignorant and bigoted opponent of reform) are both gone. Tried going the passive-aggressive meta-route of telling my friend I would never actually keep a blog, but someone had previously snatched up tumbleweed.

Eventually I succumbed to my computer science background and remembered the two hard things. Of the two, only the third remained, and only in the plural, so here we are, Alex. I hope you're happy.
